Fog in Landrecies

When it was finally time to leave Landrecies we were greeted with this foggy sight on the Monday morning. We put off departure for another day and settled to an easy day. Tuesday started with worse fog but we decided to wait until after lunch and see what happened and by then it had cleared enough to set off.

Depart Landrecies

Our neighbours on Celestia took these pictures as we left, waving us off from Landrecies bridge above the lock.

Landrecies Lock

Here we are exiting the first lock of the day, the lock has a nice guiding girder on our starboard side and Lorna is walking back along the side deck after letting go the bow rope.

The system is designed for us to operate by pushing a button on a remote box that was given to us as we arrived in the region. These boxes didn't work so we had to phone the main office in Barlaimont and they operated all the locks remotely. Not even the CCTV cameras were working but a lock keeper told us that the system would be renewed next year with new remotes and camera system so that it would all work. We've heard since tht new, working, remote boxes are now being issued to boats. It is encouraging that they still plan to upgrade and spend on the Sambre canal.

Exit the lock

We put on some power and were away downstream.

Away from Landrecies

Waterdog steaming into the distance, it looks pretty idealic as the fog clears and the sun starts to break through.
